🎧 Album Review: Davido's 5ive
Release Date: April 18th, 2025
Afrobeats heavyweight Davido returns with a new project, 5ive, showcasing things about his life, like his family, how he's got five siblings, this is also his fifth studio album amidst others. This album comes on the heels of his highly celebrated Timeless, but 5ive feels like a more personal and experimental body of work.
🔍 First Impressions
From the opening track, Davido sets a confident tone with the voice over by Alhanislam. The beats are smooth, but the lyrical content weren't really solid. The first six tracks weren't weighty for me. But longtime fans would disagree.
🔥 Top Tracks
- R&B #1 – A unique blend with Davido and Shenseea. Catchy hook and she never misses. 450 was also spectacular on this.
- Awuke #2 – This one was released before the album and was an instant hit. Davido sings about his love for a particular girl here, but big ups to YG Marley for his sweet delivery on the song as it's said that he saved the track from becoming a flop.
- Tek #3 – Featuring Becky G, The hook is so catchy. It's something that would remain in the heads of listeners. Easily one of the leading tracks of the album and the feature was perfect. She understood the assignment.
- Holy water #4 – A standout collab track that fans will keep on repeat. This one features Victony & Musa keys the Unavailable guy. Cool lines like "Pick one, pick two, last card, check up." Whot cards game inspired.
- Titanium #5 – You know anything Breezy touches turns gold. And have you noticed the closeness between Chris and Davido lately? It used to be Wizkid and Chris Brown, then suddenly its Davido. Anyway, Chris influenced the music richly.
- Funds #6 – This one too just like Awuke had previously been released before the album release. It received massive recognition because of the features. Big Kala and Chike did justice.
- Lover Boy #7 – The blend of the voices of the features was mind blowing at some point, it looked like they took the song from Davido. And it was good that way because they didnt really have chemistry together.
- Lately #8 – Like a lone wolf, this one had its own vibes. Cool to meditate, he did something good here.
- Nuttin Dey #9 – Cool vibes from the artist, smooth grooves sounded more like a freestyle.
🎤 Lyrical Content
Unlike some of his previous works, this is one i took my time to listen to from the beginning to the end. And Lyrically, its a no for me. There was no lyrical depth if you know what i mean.
💿 Production
The production is clean and refreshing. Davido taps into both local and international sounds, giving listeners that signature Naija flavor while reaching global standards. Shout out to all the producers for their work on album.
⭐ Verdict
5ive is a cool offering from Davido. It just doesn't have a replay value. I'm not a fan of Davido, neither do I hate him. I love a couple of his songs and sing them too. I stream them on my phone, but I feel like he hasn't mastered the craft of delivering an album with a replay value just yet.
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (2.5/5)
📸 Final Words
Davido needs to be open to criticism. Its obvious his team know something but can't say it to him. I like to see how long this album lasts on the charts and the streets. It’s a half mark.
Here is a spotify link to listen to the album.

I'd be doing a side by side review on Wizkid's Morayo album to see which is more weighty.
